The U.S. National Parks offer wonderful camps for kids, free of charge. The camp themes and activities are unique to each national park. My youngest daughter has participated in the Jr. River Rangers camp as well as the Jr. Reef Rangers camp at the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam and absolutely loved them.
The Guam park has a new opportunity coming up for middle schoolers interested in becoming junior park rangers during the Mar. 26-30, 2018 Spring Break.

War in the Pacific National Historical Park Hosts the Junior Ranger Academy!
This spring, War in the Pacific National Historical Park along with partner Pacific Historic Parks is proud to host the annual Junior Ranger Academy. The Junior Ranger Academy provides youth a great opportunity to learn about Guam’s national park, have fun, and share their park experiences with families, friends, and schoolmates.
Junior Rangers will spend the week exploring World War II sites around Guam. They will see real WWII artifacts, hear about the historic battles on Guam, spend time outdoors, and participate in restoring a WWII site.
The theme for this year’s Junior Ranger Academy is Monuments, Memorials, and Public Memory. All activities and field trips throughout the week will support this theme and lead to a final Junior Ranger project at the end of the week. Participants will work together in teams, using their experiences during the week, to propose and design their own monument or memorial.
The Junior Ranger Academy is free and will run from March 26 to March 30, 2018. Registered participants who complete all five days of the program will become Junior Rangers and receive an official Junior Ranger badge and certificate.
Youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades are eligible to join but must register to participate. Registration packets are available at the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center in Sumay. Last day to submit a completed registration form, and a $20 refundable deposit, is Thursday, March 22, 2018. Space is limited, so register soon.
For more information, visit the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center in Sumay, email aobrien@pacifichistoricparks.org, or call 671-477-7278, Ext 1018.
