After months of waiting, our new boat finally arrived in Guam. There was some dispute as to what to name it. My husband briefly considered incorporating part of my name into the title, which made my oldest daughter green with jealousy that it might not be named after her. My youngest daughter wanted it to be named after all of us, which it now is.
In the end, my husband surprised us all with naming it in honor of my father, who we call Papa. My Dad was born in Guam, which gives my girls and I our Chamorro heritage. He also loved to go fishing and would have gladly been out there on the water with us everyday if he was here. It couldn’t have been a more fitting name choice.
