I’m back to working on the novel again. I’d say I’m about two-thirds of the way through the very rough first draft. I want to get the story on paper first before I get too caught up in editing and rewriting.
I also put the final touches on a ghostly short story that I’ve been working on, just in time for Halloween.

I don’t have a specific goal deadline, but I’m hoping to be done with the first draft in about three to four months, and then I’ll probably spend another several months editing and rewriting it. This is the first novel I’ve attempted, so I’m still trying to figure out how realistic those goals are. Mainly, I just keep sitting my butt in front of the computer to write until it’s done.
The short story was submitted for a publication that is being produced by my writer’s group in 2010. It’s going through final edits now. I may publish it here afterwards, but it’ll be in there first.

Halloween always seems like a nice excuse to finish off all the ghost stories you’ve got lying around. I finally finished my “zombie sofa” story earlier.
Have you given us the broad strokes of the novel before, or am I just being forgetful?

The novel I’m writing is a paranormal fantasy featuring supernatural characters similar to angels, vampires, and a number of other mythical creatures. It’s basically an alternate history timeline that assumes these legends have always lived amongst us (though in most cases our interpretations of “sightings” haven’t been real accurate). After a world-wide tragedy, one specific race decides to “come out of the closet,” so to speak. It’s set in a neighborhood in the Midwest, and it’s mainly about one of these supernatural beings and his experiences living in this small town, after the true nature of his race is revealed.
