Caroline Hagwood recently published an article in Blogcritics Magazine titled Why You Should Write that First Novel. As someone who is more than halfway through a first draft of my initial attempt at writing a full length novel, I found her words served as both a reality check as well as an inspiration.

Write the first one so you can write the second? Bizarrely, that is sort of good advice. I look back on the first one and see all the mistakes, but I wouldn’t have been able to write the current ones without working through it.
