My oldest daughter will be making her theater debut in the upcoming production of Lights Out, thanks to the St. John’s School drama department. Just one year ago, she was upset that she got assigned drama as an elective for one quarter as part of the middle school rotating electives. She was interested in things like computer coding and was very nervous about the idea of creative performance. I’m pleased to say that being pushed outside of her comfort zone allowed her to discover she actually enjoyed something new and different from her usual pursuits.
Now, one year later, drama was at the top of her list of requested electives. She’s been spending her free time outside of school rehearsing for her small role in her first play, and she’s quite enjoying it. Karen Flores, her drama teacher, wrote the play. She has a real passion for drama, and she inspires her students to share her enthusiasm.
If you’re in Guam, please join us for Lights Out at the Plaza in Guam Nov. 2, 3 & 4 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the door or from St. John’s drama students.
