The U.S. version of democracy is supposed to serve as a conduit for civil liberties, basic rights and freedoms, but we have yet to elect a woman or a minority as president of the United States of America. Regardless of which side of the political party line that you sit, why is this such an issue? For crying out loud, isn’t it about damn time that someone other than a white male represent our country? (Nothing against white males — I happen to be married to one. He’s very white, with freckles, and I find him utterly irresistible.)
